    To Disco, with Love is author, David Hamsley s response to the lack of disco records represented at a New York art gallery s exhibit of album art The underappreciated album cover art form needed a voice and Mr Hamsley was inspired to serve The book is packed with hundreds of covers spanning disco s prime years 1972 1980 , all pleasantly presented in chronological order While Hamsley is not a great writer his sudden shifts from writing about the cover art of one album to the chart rating of another within the same paragraph often left me scratching my head , he does show off some beautiful album covers a few I have never seen all reproduced in bright, clear detail.One thing that becomes apparent while reading this book is how many albums were left out I know space limitations are a factor, but I got the sense that copyright may have had something to do with it Why the influential soundtracks for Thank God It s Friday and The Eyes of Laura Mars are not even mentioned is weird to me, while three separate Grace Jones s covers are featured Grace Jones is wonderful and her impact on disco is legendary but I would like to have seen a few others represented, as well Overall, this is a very fine book ...
